See How Musicians Are Incorporating the Natural Sound Effects into Pop Music!

Pop music has a different meaning for each of us. It may represent our youth's memories, our different moods, or our inner desires for freedom. Regardless of what pop music means to each of us, we cannot deny the vital role it plays in our lives.

For many music creators, the purpose of creating a pop song is not only to create music that resonates with the listener but also to be creative and to make the listener feel something different. The creation of music is always magical and unpredictable. Many music composers or singers are very good at adding many interesting or meaningful sound elements to their music. These elements may be unnoticed when we listen to music in our daily lives. They may be hidden in the details of life, or they may originate in the natural environment. In this blog, we can see how pop music creators use their talent and creativity to incorporate the sounds of water and animals from nature into their albums.

01. Noah Cyrus ft. Labrinth, “Make Me (Cry)”

Sound Effect Sampled: Water droplet

When: 0:33

The water droplet sound effect in Noah Cyrus’ “Make Me (Cry)” had a very specific purpose. She uses the sound of water droplets to express an attitude of either love or hate. While the production element symbolizes heartbroken tears, it also echoed the song’s theme, which had Cyrus explaining that she simultaneously “needed” and “hated” her lover. Either way, the water droplet signifies both pain and pleasure.

02 Bauuer, “Harlem Shake”

Sound Effect Sampled: Lion’s roar

When: Throughout

In early 2013, America was suffering from a dance meme epidemic. The Harlem Shake, set to the tune of Baauer's "Harlem Shake," involved one lone dancer, thrusting and flailing as the song built its way to a climax. When you heard the lion roar in this song, the video would cut to a group of people making fools of themselves in the name of the internet. The song's sampled lion roar was crucial, as it signified the unleashing of people's inner beasts, ready to bust out their most fiercest dance moves with abandon.

03 The Garifuna Collective, "Black Catbird"

Sound Effect Sampled: Birds

When: Throughout

This album has a significance beyond the music itself. Music creators use their unique way to save endangered birds around the world.

An international collective of electronic music DJs and composers is taking beats from the dance club to jungles and forests and back, all to help save nature's greatest singers. A Guide to the Birdsong of Mexico, Central America and the Caribbean is a new album that samples the sounds of endangered birds and whose proceeds go directly towards efforts to save them. This also means that they intend to use all profits from vinyl and digital distribution for bird conservation projects.

The group of musicians recorded the sounds of endangered birds and turned them into elements of electronic music. They believe that the birds' habitat is under significant threat due to the large number of trees that have been cut down in some places. As a symbol of freedom, the bird's survival should not be threatened by human activity. Therefore, these musicians hope that in this way, the public will be inspired by the music and take action to protect the homes of these birds.

These singers and music composers have used their inspiration and creativity to make pop music more appealing to the public. Also, they added nature elements to their albums so that listeners can feel the sincerity of the music's creators. Meanwhile, the music's natural features will make people understand the musicians' intentions so much that they are inspired to value the importance of nature.

After reading this blog, if you can also feel the magic of mixing natural elements with pop music, why not try getting out into nature and recording the sounds by yourself? Maybe you will be the next musician!
